About Indian National Portage Association
Indian National Portage Association (INPA) headquartered at Chandigarh, India is
a Non-Profit, Professional, Educational, Non-Government, Voluntary
Organization set up 39 years ago by Prof Mrs. Tehal Kohli. INPA has served more than 40,000 beneficiaries till date.
It is an
affiliate of International Portage Association, USA. (IPA consists
of a focused group of professionals, parents & individuals who are
interested in research, service and policies related to children
with or at risk of a disability and their families. IPA is active
in more than 130 countries of the world).
Indian National Portage Association is
registered under Societies Registration Act 1860, No.2282 and is
also FCRA Registered and Tax exempted.
INPA
is an action oriented, research services based
Organization, dedicated to the welfare of children 'at-risk' of
Developmental Delays / Learning Disabilities / Mental Retardation
and Welfare of women / Families.
INPA has Zonal Representatives all over the country, to promote
the Portage movement and offer Portage services as well as Early
Intervention Services to the children with special needs. In the past few years, INPA has spread its wings for many more
activities including starting new courses, recognized by
International and / or National Bodies.
Aims & Objectives of INPA
INPA is primarily dedicated to helping normalize
children with or at risk of Developmental Delays, Learning
Disabilities and Mental Retardation /Intellectual Disabilities as well as helping their
families and also offer special need-based education and training
for other segments of society.
It is primarily based on the premise that something more than simple
humanitarian care is needed for such children and that Portage
Home/Institution/Center Based Services and other Programmes can
meet this need.
Its aims and objectives would help promote the
National Policy of Education (1986 and later Reports such as Subramanian Report, 2016 -17) which lays stress on Early
Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programmes through family and
community involvement.
It also promotes aims and objectives of
other National Bodies such as Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI),
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), etc for providing
Education/Special Education/Human Resource Development and
Services to special groups of children, disadvantaged BOP Population, unemployed youth etc In fact the National Policy on Education (NPE) is a policy formulated by the Government of India to promote education amongst India's people. The policy covers elementary education to colleges in both rural and urban India.
